COVID-19 Vaccination Available in Ardmore

Posted on Monday, January 4th, 2021

Oklahoma has begun phase two of COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Currently, the closest site for Love County residents to be inoculated is the Ardmore Convention Center, 2401 N. Rockford Rd. A weekly vaccine clinic is taking place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays in January.

According to the state’s vaccine distribution plan, first responders are first to get the vaccine under phase two, and then it’s healthcare workers providing care for COVID-19 patients, following by adults 65 and older and then pre-K through 12th grade teachers and support staff.

Staff and residents in congregate locations are next, which includes prison staff and inmates.

Announcements will be sent to local media about who will be eligible at the vaccination events each week, according to Mendy Spohn, Regional Administrative Director for District 8 of the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

The Ardmore vaccine clinic on January 5 is for first responders, healthcare workers, and Oklahomans aged 65 and up.

Online appointments are available through links on the Love County Health Department Facebook page, but walk-ins also will be accepted throughout the day. Mornings are the busiest times at the clinic.

Other cities in Region 8 that are holding vaccine clinics are Ada, on Wednesdays at the Pontotoc Co. Agri-Plex, and Duncan, on Thursdays at the Stephens Co. Fair Grounds.

“We expect to open up quickly to other populations in Phase 2 as more vaccines are received,” Spohn said.

Plans are underway to reach those who are medically fragile, homebound, or unable to walk or sit.

“We definitely have a sense of urgency based on what our medical partners are seeing in the hospitals due to this virus,” Spohn said. “Please help our healthcare system by continuing to wear a mask, wash your hands and watch your distance as they are still key components of minimizing the spread of COVID at this time.”
