Open Enrollment is when seniors already members of Medicare can change from one plan to another without penalty. The changes become effective on January 1, 2024.
Examples of plan changes are moving from Medicare Advantage back to regular Medicare; changing from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another; or enrolling in Medicare if you are eligible but have not done so.
The most popular type of assistance, though, is with Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plans. Changing plans in this area to reflect changes in your prescription list during the year, or to move from a pricy plan to a lower-cost plan that still covers your most expensive drugs can save people significant costs in premiums and copayments.
Also if you have been enrolled in regular Medicare but have not enrolled in Part D Prescription Drug coverage, now is the time to do so.
