Online Bill Pay Introduced at Hospital/Clinic

Posted on Monday, November 20th, 2023

Patients and family can now pay their hospital and clinic bills online with a credit card or debit card.

Mercy Health Love County business office director Carla Bolton announced the new feature, which opened in October on the MyMercy app.

“Online is a secure and accurate and convenient way to pay a bill,” Bolton said. “It is available 24 hours a day and accepts all major credit and debit cards.”

Previously, credit card payers had to telephone the business office during the workweek and read their card information aloud.

The options to pay bills in person, by mail, or by telephone are still available. Bills eligible to be paid online are those dated July 1, 2023 or later, Bolton said.

In another new development Mercy now has an 800 number to call for patients who find it hard to pay their medical bills. Bolton said the phone line is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday to see if the patient is eligible for Mercy’s Financial Assistance Program.

“If you are uninsured, we will also help evaluate if you are eligible for Medicaid coverage. Mercy also offers options for payment plans,” Bolton said.

The number to call for Mercy’s Financial Assistance Program is 1-855-420-7900. Spanish-language interpreters are on the line.

Online bill pay is found at the web portal My Mercy on the internet or by downloading the MyMercy app onto a phone, computer, or other electronic device. There are English and Spanish versions.

New users can pay as a guest of MyMercy, if they wish. Choose Quick Pay on the home screen. Then enter the account number shown from the detail section of the hospital or clinic bill and the last name of the person responsible for paying the patient’s bills (the guarantor).

Every bill has its own account number but users can add multiple accounts and make payments to each, respective bill.

On the other hand, there are great advantages to going ahead and signing up for the free My Mercy account by creating a username and password from the home screen.  That enables users to store their credit and debit  cards and not have to enter the numbers each time they are used.

Patients will be able to review past payments and insurance payments that have been made toward their accounts. Also, the MyMercy app displays the user’s medical records.

Typical information patients will see includes laboratory and radiology results; medications, visit history, and after-visit notes from the physician.

MyMercy displays the list of scheduled appointments. Patients can also send messages on the app to their physicians. They can request prescription renewals on the app instead of calling the office.

Email notices alert them to any new activity on their portal, such as test results, messages, or appointments.

“The ease of access is astounding,” said medical records specialist Jamie Girard. “All of our clinic doctors and nurse practitioners are available on the portal. You can ask questions and these are transmitted directly to your physician office. You can request forms for proxy authorization, restrictions on records release, or advance directives.”

Patients age 18 and older are eligible to open their own accounts on MyMercy. Children remain on their parents’ account until turning 18.
