Counselor Staffs the Family Services Side of Adult Day Center

Mercy Love County Adult Day Center and Family Services, one block south of the hospital, celebrated its first anniversary on January 12, 2015. ADC is owned and operated by the hospital.

The mission is to provide a day out for adults who are not as active as they once were and would enjoy the opportunity to socialize in a setting that is safe, fun, professionally run, and can meet their physical challenges.

The center is staffed by a registered nurse, activities director, certified nurse aides, and licensed professional counselor. Transportation to ADC is available for residents of Love County, Marshall County, and Carter County.

The licensed professional counselor provides individual and family counseling for the whole community. Call ADC at 276-1542.

Claudia Flores, CNA

Having played basketball at Madill
High School, where she graduated in
2007, it comes as no surprise to learn
that "bean bag toss" is a favorite game
Flores plays with ADC participants.

Another favorite is reading the newspaper
aloud and discussing the news stories.
Above all, she values "listening to their
stories of how they grew up with their
parents."

The certified nurse aide joined ADC in
September 2014. "I help with things
like personal assistance, running errands
to the store, or taking them to the doctor's
clinic across the street."

Bruce Hammond, Director

Hammond is an Air Force veteran and
businessman who made a midlife
career change into counseling and
psychology. He was hired by the
hospital two years ago to oversee
the building renovations, launch ADC,
and become director and Licensed
Professional Counselor.

He has helped the day center's
participants receive finance aid from
Department of Human Services,
Developmental Disabilities Service
Division, Advantage, and Veteran's
Administration.

"I absolutely love what I do. Being
around the elderly, who have something
to offer people daily, is a joy for me. As
an individual and family counselor, I've
established a great relationship with area
schools and we are getting lots of referrals."
Hammond holds advanced degrees in
business and psychology.
